Fly-in Jumbo Perch Fishing

Percy Lake (north of Nakina) has huge Jumbo Perch. You will find them in protected bays and in the weed beds. Sometimes you will find the really big ones mixed in with schools of Walleyes. Perch in the 11" to 13" range are common. There have been bigger ones caught in the 14" to 15" inch range but they are not as common. If you target Perch the best time is when it's overcast or during light rain. In these conditions they tend to roam out of the thick weeds and feed aggressively. During light rain is when the biggest Perch bite. Perch fishing is also a lot of fun for younger children. It's a good way to get them interested in fishing.

Use small lures or small jigs tipped with a tiny piece of worm. Cast into opening in the weeds or along the weedlines. You can also try using Crappie baits.
